It makes sense, then, that Cabernet blends would be a wine genre in their own right. Cabernet wines are an indispensable part of Bordeaux , where they are combined with other Cabernets as well as Merlot , Malbec , Petit Verdot or Carménère. It is also frequently blended with a variety of grapes such as Shiraz , Tempranillo and Sangiovese . Cabernet is blended with Petit Verdot to give it a richer color, and with Malbec to add additional fruit and floral aromas. In Australia, it is blended with Shiraz to unite the two consistencies. Cabernet Sauvignon's origin in the 17th century is the result of crossing Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc , both of these Bordeaux grape varieties, and it is widely agreed that the grape originates from the Bordeaux region itself. It can, then, be seen as the center of French wine-making culture, if any grape can. The Bordeaux blend is a wine genre in and of itself, and when inhaling the aroma of a Bordeaux, one can sense the essence of France itself, contributed mainly by the Cabernet grape.
